Ads
As with most other media, advertising is a key source of revenue for The Daily Californian. Local, regional, and national businesses have promoted their products and services to the university community throughout its history. Ads have featured clothing, food, and drink, school supplies, modes of transportation, venues, events, special appeals, and a host of other goods. Individuals have opportunities to advertise through the classified section, and UC Berkeley units publicize their programs. The Daily Cal sometimes includes its own ads, calling for new staff members. Some advertisers choose to use illustrations while others rely on plain text to attract customers. This case highlights a small selection of ads from the paper’s pages. While ads still appear in the print editions, many of them now run online.
