Statue of the letter vav/waw
- Description:
- This sculpture is an example of how the Arabic letter form و , pronounced as “waw” in Arabic and “vav” in Turkish, need not be solely restricted to a two-dimensional form, and can instead take a sculptural one. It holds additional aesthetic value through the decorative swirling vines carved on the side. The religious meaning of this letter derives in part from Islamic Sufi tradition and references to the divine.
